I started having good contractions June, 10th on a Friday and was already dilated to a 3+ and 80% thinned out, but then the contractions just stopped! I was kind of glad cause Matt's family was traveling home from California with our son Justin, they spent a week there having fun with all our family going to all the fun places like Disney Land, California Adventure and the beach!! I wanted to be there with my boy SO bad and missed him terribly :( But it made me happy to know he was with his grandma and grandpa Shumway and his Aunts and cousins that he loves so much!!! =) He had a Blast!! We had this trip planned almost a year in advance, but knowing us- we had to go and get pregnant again right after we planned it and I was due real close to the trip date so I couldn't go and stayed home with my man Matt and my girl Kaylee :)
We were still unpacking and making our New home feel like Ours! I had lots to do still before the baby got here, so it was good to stay home and work on it! But then my stupid feet and legs swelled up and started throbbing way bad so I couldn't do to much :( I had to just sit and watch while everyone else did things for me! Thanks: Mom, Dad, Matt, Laura (& kids), Brandon, Cari (& kids), Jeri and Merald, Kalli, Addi, Gary and Vicki!! They all helped me either clean, move boxes, watch my kids, move stuff in the house or work out in our yard!! You all are GREAT!!!!
Anyways back to the baby story: I was glad my contractions stopped cause I wanted my son and Matt's family back in town before I had her. So I made it to yet again Another doctors appointment on Wednesday the 15th and I had no new progress although I was having minor contractions everyday since last Friday, So Dr. Lunt asked me if I wanted to have my membranes stripped to hopefully help me go into labor quicker since my due date was that coming Saturday and I did NOT want to go over so I said "YES!" =) But Matt said "NO!" :( (grrr) I asked the doctor if it hurt to have it done and he said yes and since I never had it done before I figured why cause more pain then needed before the baby even starts coming! I'll just be patient and let my body & baby take it's coarse naturally! Although deep inside I wanted it done so bad, but am so glad I listened to Matt and didn't have the doctor do it! So after the doctor apt. we went to lunch together- just the 2 of us, went home and had a lovely evening in New Harmony and after getting the kids bathed and to bed we went down the street to say hello to the new neighbors that moved into the house we looked at with the big greenhouse. They are a little older couple that are just so fun, friendly and sweet (we are now good friends with them)! Then we went home and turned on a movie (that we didn't watch ;) and then I started having BAD contractions around 10:00 and they were pretty steady the moment they started and were way strong! So Matt laid there in bed watching the clock and laughing at me frantically packing my bag for the hospital WAY LAST MINUTE and getting ready so we could leave to the hospital! I was having a Very hard time packing while having contractions and kept snapping my fingers during the pain, Matt again thought that was funny and was laughing at me! I told him to call his mom to come out to our house so she could watch our sleeping kids while we drive to the hospital, but Matt said "not yet, it hasn't been an hour yet from when you first started contracting". I was Seriously about to KILL him!!!! I was ready to leave NOW! I was in so much pain that I was hunched over hugging our office chair and snapping away!! hahaha That's how I was dealing with my pain! Well it wasn't even a couple minutes later since I told Matt to call his mom and she was at the door! Matt had called her a while ago, before I had even asked him to, but didn't want to tell me cause he's a butt like that! If you don't know Matt, that is how Matt rolls! He loves to tease you and keep you in the dark!! HAHA He's SO NOT FUNNY at times like that! But yup he was a good to call her when he did cause I was getting CLOSE and was so ready to leave and be in that hospital!!! So finally off we went down to St. George (a 40 minute drive) with me in a LOT of pain, pressure and really hoping we don't: *Hit a deer *Get stuck in slow one lane traffic due to construction *Get pulled over for speeding. Or last but not least *Have the baby in the car!!!!! Well we passed all of them, but barley!! We had passed a cop on the freeway close to our exit and did NOT get pulled over (way surprised about that one) so glad we didn't!! So I get to the hospital I think about 11:45 or so and I was barely able to walk into the hospital, but did :) and they checked me and I was already dilated to a whopping 8 :) I was SO happy to hear that!!!! I told Matt to call my mom so she would make it in time and then they took me to my room and asked if I was ready for an epidural yet! I sure as HECK was, but told them no I want to be crazy again and go Natural with no pain meds. or IV (if I didn't have to so I could move around better). So they said sure thing and the nurses helped me in every way possible to keep me comfortable and help me through the painful contractions! Matt was also the greatest help :) and my mom and sister! My mom made it in time to braid my hair for me so I wouldn't be so HOT with my hair all over :) It felt so NICE!! The doctor came in and broke my water and then I was ready to start pushing pretty fast after that! Then my sister's shows up right in time and I start the fun pushing part of labor what I call the "Burning Ring of FIRE" when going all natural! ;) haha It hurt like SUPER BAD!!! But I did Amazing the second time around may I say!!! I handled my pain like a freaking pro this time! I really can not believe I did it that good! But I pushed for like 20 minutes and I watched her come on out :) But not without ripping on both ends :( OUCH!!!!! If it weren't for that part I'd be totally fine and heal so dang quick! She came out and was crying right off the bat and was Beautiful! When they put her on me to snuggle for the first time she pooed all over!! haha So I guess you can say she got the crap squeezed right out of her when I gave it one last hard push! LOL She was very healthy and was so far my smallest baby, weighing 6 lbs. 14 oz. :) But I was so ok with that!!! YAY!
She got a ton of compliments from all the nurses of how cute she was and all her dark pretty hair! They loved her, but not as much as I do! She is my sweet little lady Kimber Ray Shumway!!!
She was born at 1:15 a.m. on Thursday June 16th, 2011- our baby #3! Perfect in every way!!!
Me and Matt make some very proud parents :) She is a great lil nurser from right off and I am so very glad for that! Matt was so ready to go home right after she was born and so was I, we asked when we could go and they said we had to stay at least 18 hrs. We were a bit bummed, but what can ya do! Matt is the best husband to stay by my side the whole time while at the hospital. I love his great support he gives me!! All together a GREAT experience!! As painful as it is giving birth without an epidural it is so worth it!! The recovery time is lots faster and it's better for you and the baby! The worst part was being stitched up and not being fully numbed! ICK! That part was crappy! I am also so thankful that God gave me great child bearing hips and the capability of having my kids natural! I always think if our ancestor's could do it way back when they gave birth and had not pain killers, then why can't I! It's a great feeling and I suggest those that are brave enough and are capable then try it at least once! It's truly an amazing feeling and accomplishment! Anyways it was to me :) I've now had it both ways! With and without an epidural and well since this is my 2nd time not having one, it was worth it and not terribly that bad! lol
